Altai Conversions are hand converted camper vans with a simple and clean yet effective design. Created by Harry Pitcher, a Marines Reserve in training and outdoor pursuits enthusiast, his camper van builds take the outdoors and how we interact with it to the forefront of his designs . Whether you are a pro surfer or triathlete, or someone who just likes to enjoy the outdoors with their creature comforts at hand, Harry’s vans accommodate for all.
After he left school he moved to the South of France to work on board Super Yachts. Four years later he had gained multiple skills in carpentry, electrics, engineering, and a keen eye for detail, but was beginning to grow restless. Not knowing his next move he bought a Ford Transit LWB Medium roof van, converted it, and drove to Mongolia and back. Ten months, nineteen countries and twenty thousand miles later he and Tina the Transit made it home, all in one piece with no punctures, but a few new CV joints and engine mounts courtesy of the Gobi desert terrain.
Out of this trip Altai Conversions was born, it’s name inspired by the Central Asian region were China, Russia, Mongolia and Kazakhstan meet. A place and people of incredible beauty and uniqueness, qualities that Harry wants to bring to his van conversions and inspire others to travel to and interact with such places too.
